Crossfields Institute Level 4 Certificate in Therapeutic Childcare

Now in its 3rd year, our fantastic Level 4 course was originally developed and piloted with a Local Authority team who wanted training which met the diverse needs of those working alongside children who have experienced early life trauma in their children’s residential care home settings. This is an accredited course by APPCIOS & Crossfields Institute, and will also contribute to your Continued Professional Development.

This course has been mapped against the mandatory Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People Workforce and Residential Child Care; exceeding the requirements therefore enabling students to achieve a Level 4 qualification.

We are so passionate about the Level 4 course and the difference it has made to so many already, that we are excited to announce the Level 4 course is also now available online, where students will still receive the same high standard of training that you would expect from The Mulberry Bush. If you would like to know more about our exciting new offering please contact Angela Brown [email protected]

Why Mulberry Bush?

We have been working across the childcare sector since 1948, supporting children and families who have experienced trauma in their lives. We use our understanding of children’s inner world & internal emotional life to inform our three core principles which are integral to the delivery of our training courses:

  • A good psychodynamic understanding which informs a shared psychodynamic approach.
  • The development of a reflective culture at all levels and in all disciplines is paramount
  • Collaborative working is essential to a high quality treatment environment

How will this course be delivered?

This course will be delivered through experiential learning which means students are expected and encouraged to bring themselves and their experiences to the learning situation. There will also be a range of taught sessions, work discussion groups and reflective practice sessions as well as the opportunity to professionally and socially network. A key element to the learning is the residential experience held at our stunning MB3 site in Gloucestershire.

This course covers four modules over one year:

  • Principles of Therapeutic Child Care
  • Concepts, Theories and Techniques in Therapeutic Child Care
  • Impact of Trauma on Children and Young People
  • Working with Children and Young People’s Behaviour
