Introduction to SEMH

This training is designed for anyone working with children, young people and/or their parents or carers. It aims to provide an understanding of what a child or young person’s behaviour may be communicating and ways to reduce this anxiety, prevent and de-escalate behaviours which challenge us.

The course aims to link psychodynamic theory with practice and is informed by our experience at The Mulberry Bush of working therapeutically with children who have experienced trauma and the emotional impact this can have on the staff working alongside them.

The course takes place across three sessions, each of which will focus on a key element. These elements reflect our core values and approaches. The sessions provide the chance to understand and think about social, emotional, and cognitive developmental experiences which may impact on how children and young people manage the many and varied demands of school. Together they form the basis for working within a reflective, relational approach with children who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs.

Session One – Making Sense of Behaviour

This session aims to provide an understanding of what a child or young person’s behaviour may be communicating and ways to reduce this anxiety, prevent and de-escalate behaviours which challenge us.

Session Two – Attachment Informed Practice

This training aims to provide an understanding of attachment, how this impacts on a child or young person’s behaviour and how to support children and their individual needs. This session will highlight the importance of early relationships and brain development.

Session Three – Brain Development & Trauma

Have you ever wondered why some children appear to react to the smallest of triggers? Do you work with children whose behaviour can go from nought to sixty in the blink of an eye? This training is designed to provide an introduction on how trauma in early childhood can affect the development of their growing brains. The aim of this two hour session is to gain insight into and think about the neuroscience of trauma, toxic stress and the consequences for children’s social, emotional and executive functioning and behaviour regulation.

Cost

This whole school training  (up to 40 people) is £450.00 per half day. Each session is delivered over half a day and if you book all 3 sessions together you will save £50, paying £1300.00
