Hi everyone. It is the end of the first day in Gambia.

We arrived quite late last night. We had a few delays so went back to the hotel, had some dinner and then went to bed.

And then this morning we have been doing kind of the essential bits, like we’ve been getting SIM cards for the phones, exchanging money, all those little bits, and then a few of us this morning went into the local village just down from the hotel and just had a little explore and a little wonder. We saw some goats and some local people selling some really cool things.

In this video, we just found some baby goats out on the street. Yusuf has just found a little group of children to share his football skills too, just walking around a local village.

And then this afternoon we were taken to the beach for a little bit of a kind of relaxed calm before the storm, which was lovely. We spent the afternoon there just kind of getting to know people. And then I think tomorrow we are meeting our partners who we’re going to be working with.

So Daughters of Africa and Diego have got partners out in Gambia who are going to be supporting us throughout the next two weeks. I think we’ve got a conference room booked and we’ve got a few meetings with them.

We’re going to finalise our projects, make sure they’re all sorted ready to go Monday morning. I don’t think I’ve said about our project, but I’m working with some of the psychology students from UWE Bristol and we’ve developed a sport based project which includes kind of social emotional and nurture and those aspects. So at The Mulberry Bush I run the social emotional curriculum and I’ve been incorporating that into the work that the psychology students will be doing.

We’re doing a bit of a collaborative approach to thinking about social and emotional regulation of emotions through sport and PE. We’ll finalise that tomorrow, but yeah, it’s really exciting.

We’ve had a nice relaxing day, but yeah, we’re starting to starting to get thinking about the next couple of weeks and what we’re going to be delivering, make sure to follow along and I will keep you updated as we go along.

So see you tomorrow guys.
