Hi everyone. It is the end of Day 2 in Gambia, we have had a very productive day. We have spent pretty much all day at the hotel and the conference room.
We’ve met our Gambian counterparts and our youth leaders that we’re going to be working with in the schools for our project and also the youth leaders for the other groups that are going to different places over the next couple of weeks, which has been really amazing to get their perspective of things and to support us on our projects.
And they have some really great local knowledge that has really, really helped helped us ensure that our project is manageable and achievable in these schools. Next week we’re going to be working in a in a private school and then the week after the state school.
So it’s been really interesting to learn about kind of the differences between the two schools. I think in the private school that we’re working in next week there’s around 25 or 30 children in a class and then in the state school there’s about 50 to 60 children in a class.
So we’ve had to do some adapting to make sure that our project’s suitable for both groups and sizes and how we’re going to have to be a bit flexible about how we manage 60 children in one go.
So yeah, but next week should be around 25 to 30 children. We’re going to try some things out there and then once we’ve practised that, we can test them out. But yeah, it’s just been really, really great to get to know them. And we’ve been teaching each other different games.
We’ve been teaching them some English games like Cross the Golden River, Tag and Stuck in the Mud. And they’ve been teaching us some really amazing games that children in Gambia, it’s really traditional for them to play.
Tomorrow we really want to get a proper insight of just what it’s like to be at a school in Gambia and learn from them a lot. So we want to kind of be able to engage in the Children’s Games and bring our own knowledge, but also learn from them.
It’s very much a two way thing for our project, which is really exciting. So yeah, apart from that we haven’t done much really. Just kind of think there’s a lot of nerve and excitement ready for tomorrow.
But yeah, we’re going to have some dinner in a bit and get an early night. We’re up at 7:00 to get the bus breakfast and then bus to the schools.
So I will let you know how the next few days go. I will see you later guys.
