We’re delighted to announce that, for the first time in our 77-year history, another school has joined the Mulberry Bush community. The Corner School is an independent Therapeutic Primary School in Wembley, London, devoted to providing a nurturing haven for pupils aged 5 – 11 with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs who, for a variety of reasons, may find mainstream education inaccessible.

Since its opening in 2018, The Corner School has been part of Unlocking Potential, a registered charity working with children and young people with social emotional, and mental health needs (SEMH).

The Mulberry Bush Chief Executive Officer, John Turberville, explains how The Corner School joining the Mulberry Bush family will benefit both the children and young people, and both staff teams:

“This is not simply a change of ownership; it’s a joining of strengths. By combining The Corner School’s creative, child-centred approach with The Mulberry Bush’s long-established expertise in therapeutic practice, we will increase the depth and breadth of support for pupils whilst sharing specialist knowledge across both teams. This in turn will result in more opportunities for professional growth and reflective learning.

Bringing our approaches together will strengthen both our impact and our ability to help every child reach their full potential. By blending the strengths of The Corner School and the Mulberry Bush, we will continue to provide safe, transformative spaces where children can heal, learn, and thrive.”

Since 1948, The Mulberry Bush Charity has been dedicated to supporting deeply troubled and traumatised children through their specialist residential school in Oxfordshire. They provide a ‘24-hour curriculum’ designed to provide children with highly individualised care and education plans, developed and reviewed by integrated treatment teams.

Jess Hooper, who has been Head of Education at the Mulberry Bush School since 2019, will take on the role of Head Teacher at The Corner School.

Director of Specialist Therapeutic Practice for the Mulberry Bush, Lee Wright, described the need for more Mulberry Bush schools:

“We’ve been asked for years about expanding our provision in the form of more schools, and I am delighted to be able to extend our therapeutic offering into London. Bringing The Corner School into our community means directly impacting more children in an area where we know there is a need. The staff teams have already begun to collaborate and are excited to share best practice and learn from one another. I have every confidence that the school will continue to thrive under Jess’s leadership and we are extremely grateful to the previous head, Daniela, and the entire staff team for making the transition so successful.”
