Crossfields Institute Level 4 Certificate in Therapeutic Childcare

We are excited to be completing our ground-breaking Level 4 Certificate in Therapeutic Childcare. We will pilot this project in Dorset with The Harbour Foster Home. This course has been designed to meet the diverse needs of those working alongside children who have experienced early life trauma in a range of settings. This is an accredited course by APPCIOS & Crossfields Institute, and will also contribute to your Continued Professional Development.

This qualification was developed in response to the training needs of residential care staff to enable them to meet the complex needs of children and young people in their care, and is a mapped against our Level 3 Foundation Degree in Therapeutic Work with Children and Young People.

Why study?

The aim of this programme is to support you to develop as a worker through creating an experience of learning and development which can easily be transferred into your work with children and young people. It will also provide an understanding of the impact of early life trauma and working with children who may have experienced attachment difficulties.

Why Mulberry Bush?

We have been working across the childcare sector since 1948, supporting children and families who have experienced trauma in their lives. We use our understanding of children’s inner world & internal emotional life to inform our three core principles which are integral to the delivery of our training courses:

  • A good psychodynamic understanding which informs a shared psychodynamic approach.
  • The development of a reflective culture at all levels and in all disciplines is paramount
  • Collaborative working is essential to a high quality treatment environment

How will this course be delivered?

This course will be delivered through experiential learning which means students are expected and encouraged to bring themselves and their experiences to the learning situation. There will also be a range of taught sessions, work discussion groups and reflective practice sessions as well as the opportunity to professionally and socially network. You will also take part in a 2 day residential at our stunning MB3 site in Gloucestershire.

This course covers four modules over one year:

  • Principles of Therapeutic Child Care
  • Concepts, Theories and Techniques in Therapeutic Child Care
  • Impact of Trauma on Children and Young People
  • Working with Children and Young People’s Behaviour

Where can it take me?

Many of our students use The Mulberry Bush courses to develop their careers into new roles and open doors. Don’t feel that finishing this course is a full-stop, use it to open the door that will lead you to where you want to get to, if you’re stuck for ideas, come and ask one of your tutors!
