Accessing Your Case File

What is a case file?

A case file, also known as a pupil, client, resident or patient file is a record of the time one person spent in a therapeutic community.

The contents of a case file will vary enormously between communities, but it will also be affected by the practices of individual members of staff and the time period in which the information was collected. Some files are very detailed providing a thorough overview of the time spent in a community. Others only record very basic details like arrival and departure dates.

Case, Care and Pupil files held by The Mulberry Bush Archive.

The Mulberry Bush closed our archive site, Third Space, on 31st June 2026. We can no longer provide access to most of the records that were in our archives.

  • Many of the collections we held, including case, care and pupil files and associated records, have moved to other archives including local record offices.
  • A number of collections have places to go to but have not moved yet.
  • A small number of collections including New Barns School, Cumberlow Community & Accacia Hall have not found appropriate homes yet.
  • The Mulberry Bush is storing those collections temporarily while we carry on looking for places that will house and provide access to these records. We are working with The National Archives on finding homes for these records.

We are not able to provide access to collections in temporary storage as we do not have the facilities or trained staff to do the work needed. We know this may be distressing, frustrating or otherwise have an impact on you. We will share a list of where collections have moved to once we make sure it’s accurate and helpful. If you need more information please contact [email protected] and [email protected].

If you were a resident of The Mulberry Bush School or The Cotswold Community, we will respond to requests for records and files as we have done, please contact Mike and Kathy.
