This year we had two fascinating speakers: Phyllida Law, an outstanding actress, known both for her portrayals of flinty, dry-witted women and her real-life role as the mother of actresses Emma and Sophie Thompson, who has been acting for over 60 years, and Lucy Hughes-Hallett, winner of the Samuel Johnson Prize and the Costa Book Award in 2013 for her biography of Gabriele D’Annunzio, The Pike.
After a delicious lunch in the dining hall of Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, they kept the 240 guests marvellously entertained and, with the help of our wonderful sponsors and the committee the event raised just under £20,000. We are so grateful to them and to Caroline de Jäger, Kate Ehrman, Jean Flemming, Nicky Forsythe, Caroline Laing and Laura Sednaoui for all their hard work to make it such a success.
