On September 22nd and 29th a free, two-part training session is being offered to teachers and other school staff to help support schools in their response to children’s trauma post-COVID-19.

This pilot training is being facilitated by Dr Dave Roberts from The Mulberry Bush and Michelle Plaisted-Kerr and Amelia Hartley from Reducing the Risk of Domestic Abuse. The aim of this workshop, which will be delivered online via Zoom, is to increase awareness and confidence amongst school staff of the impact of Covid-19 on children and families, so that children can be better supported within school settings and linked with appropriate services outside of school.

Content will include the theory of trauma, exploring feelings children experience when returning to school, what challenges children and families may have experienced during lockdown, how to identify trauma, and how to respond effectively.

Objectives of the training:
– Increase knowledge and awareness of the impact of Covid-19 on trauma, both new and pre-existing.
– Increase confidence in recognising indicators a child has experienced/is experiencing trauma.
– Increase confidence in effectively responding to children and linking with appropriate services.
