Lee Wright

Lee has over 17 years’ experience of working with children in the care system. He trained as a teacher in 1993 and started working at a school in London in 1994 and in Buckinghamshire in 1998.

Following a short break from teaching when Lee worked at a management consultancy firm, he started working for the therapeutic fostering organisation ISP, as a teacher in 2001.

Over the following 16 years Lee was responsible for teaching children who lived with ISP foster carers both at their schools and in the agency centres. During this time Lee became the Education Manager at ISP and was then responsible for managing and supporting the organisation’s Outreach Education Team across all of the 11 centres in South East England.

Lee was also responsible for developing and delivering training to all the foster carers at ISP and to schools that requested help with managing their looked after children. Lee was appointed as the Director of the Mulberry Bush School in 2017.

Jessica began her working life in arts administration, developing music education projects for disabled adults and then for inner city primary schools in and around London. After training as a teacher in 2005, she worked in primary schools in Hertfordshire, supporting children and families from diverse backgrounds and actively developing the inclusive cultures of the schools. She has provided outreach training for local schools and acted as cluster rep for a group of local SENCOs. She has also developed the provision of music and the creative arts in schools.

Since 2012, she has been SENCO, Deputy Head and a safeguarding lead, and has recently set up a Nurture Room provision to support children with a range of social, emotional and mental health difficulties.

Claire McCarthy

Claire has worked with children, adolescents and families in community and residential settings for over 24 years.

In 1992 she worked part-time as a Youth worker in Northamptonshire, volunteered at a young offenders institute and worked with brain injured adults in the community. Later she began working at the Peper Harow Foundation at Thornby Hall Therapeutic Community (which subsequently was taken over by Childhood First) for emotionally traumatised children.

Having begun as a therapeutic care worker, she progressed to team leader and went on to become assistant director at Thornby Hall.

During her career she has taken a lead on collaborative projects working with different LA teams including therapeutic fostering, family support and adoption support.

Angus Burnett

Angus has worked for over twenty years with emotionally damaged children and adolescents in a wide variety of settings.

He began at the Cotswold Community in 1989 which gave him the opportunity to work alongside pioneers such as Barbara Dockar-Drysdale, Eric Miller and Isobel Menzies-Lyth.

He is skilled in understanding and working with the inner worlds of children, families, staff and the dynamics of organisations.  He has consulted and delivered training to, amongst others, Inner London Schools.

As well as working with families and professionals who have children placed at The Mulberry Bush, Angus works with various organisations and local authorities to help develop innovative practise within the sector.

Jennifer has worked at the school since 2008.  She began her career as a teacher of children with special needs, working in therapeutic schools and state special schools before going on to work in a residential therapeutic community for traumatised boys.
