In early June, two wonderful performances of Verdi’s Rigoletto in a magical garden in Wiltshire, raised over £8,000 to pay for bikes, a bicycle shed and renovating the gardens at the Mulberry Bush. The weather was beautiful on the first night and guests picnicked either in the gardens outside or in beautiful tents dotted around the garden. The weather was less perfect the second night but this did not seem to daunt anyone and the huge tent in which the opera was performed was packed both nights. We are so grateful to Antonia and Charles Filmer for arranging the whole thing and holding it in their garden and for all their amazing hard work getting it all together, the wonderful committee, the sponsors Straben Hall and to Carolina Palermo Schulze for donating two pairs of beautiful ear-rings for the raffle and of course to all the cast from Opera A La Carte.
